Total distance about 30 to 32 kilometres includes only 4 kilometres of dirt along Reeves Road. Allow 2 to 3 hours. There is usually a lot of bird life on this ride.
To access the rail trail and other rides starting on the Melbourne ( west ) side of the Snowy River, the trail head for the new link trail is on Marlo Rd just past the Orbost Camp Park and Forest Park. It is opposite the Snowy River and can be accessed either from the bike trail beside The Snowy or from Marlo Rd. From the roundabout in Nicholson St proceed through town. Nicholson St becomes Marlo Rd.
Turn off the link trail at the sign to Buchan/ This is the Orbost Buchan Rd
Follow along the Buchan Orbost Rd beside the Snowy River until you reach an intersection at 8.2 Kilometres from the start. There is a Bromeliad Nursery on the left. This is the start of a 15 kilometre loop around Bete Bolong. You can do this loop in either direction but I prefer to do it clockwise. Follow directly ahead into Bete Bolong Road.
At 12.6 kilometres at the top of the hill from the river flats the tar road to the left is Simpsons Creek Rd which goes back to the highway. Don't turn here but continue straight ahead onto the dirt road Reeves Road. This road follows along the ridge line with the river flats on your right. After 16.5 kilometres the T intersection of Reeves Rd and the Buchan Orbost Road is reached. Turn right and descend the hill.
At 23.5 kilometres you will return to the loop intersection with Bete Belong Rd. Turn Left and return to Orbost by the same route.
